This album is constructed from an extensive archive of radio chatter from Radio Mulot, a pirate station based in Nantes, blending old sounds with countless chunks of new material from a range of instruments. Rather than a lo-fi mix of oblique incidental concrète thought, it’s pretty user-friendly. For example, the 15 minute « Mantra » takes place over a cycling bass groan and some parallel universe, while all manner of horror movie keyboard tropes, French language monologues, phone calls and pseudo classical snippets trot their way across the beat. It’s far from funky, but there is a sense of constant forward motion, making this an unusual and addictive listen.
